I never liked the standard, uninspired nature of their riffs and songwriting; before their little schism, I was hoping they'd be able to write some less "safe" and more compelling music to back up the baritone vocals, which were the one thing that made them stand out. Oh well. The first one sounds more like the stuff from the first album; the second one's more interesting to my ears, but doesn't grab me. If Batushka stands for timid songs that never quite break the mold or live up to their promise, I suppose both of these groups are carrying on that proud tradition.
