  4. Good Morning/Evening. A long time metal enthusiast from Sydney checking in. Black & Viking/Pagan metal are where my passions lie, but i do dabble in other genres on occasion. Pleasure to meet you all.

  5. Cool to see Zuriaake on your list. I only heard of them a few months ago, but was impressed by what I heard. No Drudkh?

  6. Maybe not the newest album as i don't think it's his best work, i would recommend giving his previous album Arktis. a few spins though to see what you think.

  8. Mercyful Fate- "The Beginning" Mercyful Fate is BM. Fuck whoever disagrees. They're as important to the progression of the genre as venom is.

When you look at the line-up for the ‘Midian’ tour it makes sense. New keyboard player (Powell), new drummer (Erlandsson), new (returning) guitar player (Allender); it seems quite likely that things weren’t clicking. And when you add in the ego factor of a band on top of the world commercially, it’s a recipe for, if not disaster, then a lack of focus and magic. The band I saw the other night were, firstly, absolutely A grade musicians, and as much as I love the Midian lineup they just can’t compete musically with today’s members. Add to that a sense of hunger and professionalism, probably better live venues and crew, and the 2018 live Cradle experience understandably triumphs.

  14. Welcome. I'm more into DM, although I've been on a big power metal kick lately, but I do love some black metal. Hope you enjoy your stay.

  15. Maybe the Midian tour just sucked all around. I caught it here in the USA and had a very similar experience - bad sound, disappointing performances. It put me off of them for years.

  16. Cool selections. Ihsahn is too artsy for me these days but the others interest me. The new Dimmu Borgir has grown on me immensely and I’m going to write more about it later this week. The Immortal fascinates me but I’m not expecting much. Is there a track out yet? Havent heard Tarja lately but I always keep an eye on her. I’ll check out the singles from the new Ghost album but won’t pursue it further unless I love them. I bought the last album cause I was suckered by songs like Square Hammer and Circe but I was ultimately really bored with it. I also don’t get why they’re so popular.

Good to hear that they put on a good show. I saw them back on the Midian tour in Sydney and it was horrible. The sound was muffled & the band only played for about 45 minutes. Could very well have been the fault of the venue but was still a bit disappointing. As for priorities, i have taken the very same route myself more than once.

Wow, ok. I had only heard the Grymyrk demo. Looks like I’ll have to track down Trondertun. I forgot to mention the Thorns v Emperor split, which is also a little underwhelming with its electronic feel. I have it in the collection and will have to drag it out and give it a listen. It’s probably been at least ten years since I’ve played it... They credit it to Snorre in the ‘Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk’ liner notes too. I’ve never heard the original riff recording.

  21. And posting Baise Ma Hache isn't? I just picked that song because I had not heard the alternate version before, and thought that others might find it interesting. I must say that I prefer the above version to the album one, however. I like the longer acoustic opening. 10/10 Awesome riffs and vocals. Nice high guitar tone, and the vocalist's voice matched the music perfectly.
