    What's on your mind?

Wow, had a great couple of days with my GF, and we've decided to get engaged soon. We know right now we shouldn't get engaged yet because we've haven't been together long enough, so we aren't officially engaged yet. But, we're pretty sure, and we've bought the rings. This is just completely amazing and unreal feeling. I feel like I've found who I've been looking for my whole life. I've never felt like this. For so many years I was just so full of anger and hatred and bitterness, and I hated myself and thought I was worthless. It's actually confusing to try to process these emotions I'm just so not used to. When I left her place this morning, sitting in my car while it was warming up, I burst into tears, just so overwhelmed by emotion. It's just so hard to believe that someone loves me and I'm worth something. I can't wait to put that ring an her finger.

    What's on your mind?

Not metal related, but the local weekly paper in the city where we're having a group painting show chose one of my pieces to print alongside the article. It hit me that for all the times I've seen my obscure little album and t-shirt illustrations floating around the internet, this is the first time I can recall seeing one of my personal paintings in print. I'm a little bit more excited than I should be, maybe.

So the significant other, female half of the undead partnership I co-exist with said yes to my marriage proposal by the shores of Manhattan earlier tonight. This marriage will cost human kind dearly but each sacrifice will be worth it.

    RULES! **READ BEFORE POSTING**

Members of Metal Forum, WELCOME TO THE FORUM! We all know rules are boring, but ask yourselves, what's a tyrannical dictatorship without rules? Chaos. And that simply won't do, because we mods rule with an iron fist! Please speak English in these forums. Breaking the rules will result in a caution and thread-lock. Repeat offenses will be met with a permanent ban. You have been warned. Strict guidelines:- DO NOT post racist, sexist or homophobic remarks. DO NOT bully other users or make physical threats. DO NOT post links to or discuss illegal downloads. DO NOT disseminate other users' personal information. DO NOT post pornographic material (or anything that could be seen as such). DO NOT post spam. DO NOT advertise services or products for sale (unless given permission). General tips:- Be civil and polite to other users, even when you really disagree with them! Mutual respect is important. Do not create huge signatures with lines of images. It means more scrolling, and that's not fair on our poor mouse wheels and trackpads. If your sig is any bigger than the one on this post, it's too big. If your sig disappears, it was deleted for being too big. If you repost it, you'll annoy other users and the mods. This will result in an eSlap. If a thread is clearly going to be locked, don't spam it with remarks like "This thread is going to be locked". You're just bumping a crappy thread. If you're not sure where something should go, post it in General Chat. You aren't a moderator, and acting like one isn't cool. You can swear all you like, but targeting abuse at an individual will be treated as bullying. Try to keep Rick-rolling to a minimum. Make your thread titles relevant to the content. Search the forums before posting news articles to cut down on copypasta. If you want a thread to be stickied, include "Sticky please" in the title. If it doesn't get stickied, it isn't worthy. Deal with it. If you feel your thread is NSFW, warn people in the title. Think before you do anything illegal. We will work with the authorities for great justice. Generally being excessively crude, irritating or attempting to troll for lulz may get you banned at the discretion of the moderators. Respect their decisions, they are only enforcing the rules. You can appeal a ban, but we will be checking logs to assess your offence, so don't try to lie about it. If you have any issues or suggestions, there is a place for them here. If you have any questions about the forums, post them in this thread but please, read the FAQs first! -Metal Forum Team

    What's on your mind?

Just taken Facebook off my phone and deactivated my account. Fucking sick of it. Brexit, foreigners are ruining the integrity of our nation, we don’t know why we voted at all, look at this video of my kids’ birthday party, this immigrant gets social welfare share if you think this is a disgrace, this person in this image I randomly copied from google is someone completely different to me share if you think this is a disgrace, I am stuck in a traffic jam and illegally using my phone to tell you all, I ate this for dinner, tomorrow is Friday YEY EVERYBODY! My life is so hard can one of my friends like the fact that I just posted a message to my dead granny because if she hadn’t died 20 years ago today she would be 105, nihilism is for communists, Instagram is for wankers, my sports team lost today so I am publicly shaming them to improve their performance next week, cat video.

Annual trip to Edinburgh on Friday next week for 5 days of beer, whisky, cat cafes, underground tours of the city, walks to Arthur's seat and the Water of Leith walkway. Afternoon tea at the Witchery and a one night stay in the Turret there too. Still love Edinburgh and I am genuinely excited each time I go.

    Controversial Metal Opinions

I like Iron Maiden, but as for Slayer: I do not know why, but they just bore me to tears! Now here's one for you...I am Danish, but I just cannot stand Metallica!!! Trust me, the first thing many do when they find out that I am Danish is to start yapping about sodding Metallica! And then when they find out that I am anti-Metallica it is like...WTF???? I am happy to talk about Danish/Nordic metal, but let's talk about Mercyful Fate or King Diamond band instead. Because amongst other things unlike Metallica with just one...yes, just one...Danish member and honestly he is a bit of a prat, then things are a bit different when it comes to Mercyful Fate and King Diamond Band!!!! Rant over...*lol*

No drums at practice today, but it was still productive. Our bass player is getting into the rhythm of what we're doing, and we got some vocal issues worked out with the first song, so I think the track one is pretty well done. I tried out my lyrics for the second song today, and I liked the way they fit, I just need to finish them. It's encouraging to be moving forward, to say the least. Evertune bridges

I bought the LTD MH-1007ET (which has an Evertune bridge) a couple months ago and I'm pretty fond of it. The bridge keeping strings in tune isn't really anything to write home about, as that's more an issue of convenience than anything, but it also has a few positive effects on the general playability of the instrument which may be of value. First off, when you pluck a string it helps tame the initial pitch jump (where the string briefly goes sharp before settling back down), since the saddle compensates for the string stretching (if you have it tuned at the very edge of the upper range of the 'active' zone, and unplug your guitar, you can actually hear the saddle 'buzzing' against the bend stop while it does this). This is most noticeable for those who tend to hit their strings pretty hard, and/or use very low tunings. It also helps keep the higher frets more in tune, preventing the sharpness and dissonance that comes from applying too much pressure or accidentally bending strings a bit. The fact that each string is handled independently from all the others is a nice bonus. If a string breaks, it doesn't affect the pitch of any of the others. You can also customize the zone setting for each string, so you can use the midrange of the active zone for low strings (giving them optimal pitch stability and completely eliminating bending, accidental or not), while setting the higher strings closer to the top edge of the active zone for bending. Supposedly the evertune's tension compensation has a slight reduction effect on the guitar's sustain, and if that ends up being a real issue it's always possible to tune individual saddles lower and bringing the strings above the zone to disable the evertune entirely for specific (e.g. high E) strings, while leaving it engaged for the others. I can't personally say I've noticed any lack of sustain on my MH-1007, but my playing style isn't one where I'd have much opportunity to, so take that with a grain of salt. Of course, some of the effects it addresses could also be handled by changing technique or instrument setup (e.g. putting more effort into precise fretting, strumming/picking lighter), but overall I'd say it offers a net positive effect. There are still reasons people might not want it, for example folks concerned about the routing that has to be done to install one, or folks who are super concerned about whatever effect it might be having on sustain or tone, or simply can't weigh the (subjectively) minor benefits against whatever added cost it might have on the guitar. I'd say for anyone interested but skeptical, try to find one to try out and see what you think, though they're rare enough that i also realize that would be rather...difficult for most.

    What's on your mind?

Got a lot to be thankful for. I got to spend about 6 days or so of Thanksgiving with my best friend, meaning this was my first really good Thanksgiving in about 3 years and one of the only good Thanksgiving celebrations without my family. I also got an offer for an internship with a journal of Christianity and international affairs, which will be essentially full-time pay - meaning I can quit my humiliating department store job. Gonna take the GRE again since my quantitative score needs work, but I got promotional emails from the Fletcher School at Tufts and the Josef Korbel School at University of Denver, so clearly I'm doing something right. That all this should happen at the end of a year that I largely wasted is an enormous relief and has been really motivating. Hopefully I spend 2018 at this internship before embarking on grad school and the future writ large.
