  2. Suffocation- "Effigy of the Forgotten" This is just one of those OSDM albums that never disappoints. What's interesting is that after learning "Infecting the Crypts" on guitar, it feels like I can finally appreciate the virtuosic chromaticism all throughout the album. Yet, I think Mike Smith's work on drums will always go over my head. The guy was a maniac behind the kit, and in the best way possible.

  9. Intro or Chorus from Lunatic of Gods Creation (Deicide), the riff(s) that first got me into death metal. Raining Blood (Slayer), Iron Man (Black Sabbath), Ace of Spades (Motörhead) how has no-one said any of these already? The verse riff from La Vie Est Prélude... (La Mort Orgasme) (Gorguts). A lot of riffs on Rust in Peace (Megadeth) such as the Tornado of Souls intro, the Hanger 18 sweeped riff and solo breahup riff, the Poison was the Cure main guitar riff and the Rust in Peace...Polaris verse riff alongside the Holy Wars... The Punishment Due riff @Requiem mentioned. Also the Peace Sells bassline/outro riff. The Haunting (Testament) main riff. I am a Viking intro riff (Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force) . Also, althoughit doesn't have the "classic" status of all of the others here, I really like the verse riff from Ending (Psycroptic).

  11. No it's perfect! It may be available elsewhere, but the idea is that we become the place to find it!

  12. Manheim on drums Euro on guitar Necro on bass Maniac on vocals Messiah on vocals for Pure Fucking Armageddon and Witching Hour (if memory serves). Their pictures are all on the back cover. As much as I love talking about Mayhem, isn’t all this info freely available on the World Wide Web of Internet?

  15. It's really big of you to say that. I hope you're proud of how far you've come. Couple of friends are coming up from NYC to visit tonight, and we're having a beer sampler party. I've picked up numerous highly regarded New England beers for the occasion. Look forward to tasting notes, and possibly some remorseful grumpiness, at some point tomorrow afternoon.

  17. One of the things I've noticed over the years is that Bolt Thrower fans really really love Bolt Thrower. There's no halfway. They somehow engender a lot of dedication.

    What Are You Listening To?

That's cool I guess, but when are you actually going to buckle up your pants and listen to them? NP: Wintersun - 'The Forest Seasons'. Gets better with every listen. So, so good. Jari, what a star. A crazy, crazy star.

  19. From the vaults at Castle Requiem. Hear the voices of medieval Karelian peasants as they live their lives through the Kalevala; soar with the wings of eagles over blue seas; climb the mountain inside yourself and listen to the skull of a bear. Amorphis collection:

    Greatest riffs of all time?

Some old-school 'riffs' would be: Black Sabbath - 'Black Sabbath' Iron Maiden - 'Aces High' Metallica - 'Master of Puppets' Megadeth - 'Holy Wars' when it changes into the last part which I guess they called 'The Punishment Due'.

    Hi from kent

My first couple gigs were to an Evangelical youth conference somehow intended to inculcate lasting spiritual fervor via two days of very earnest short-haired men providing analogies about fish and defecation punctuated by live sets from nu-metal bands. The best it ever got was one mediocre rock band suddenly breaking into the solo from "Carry On My Wayward Son". I think the miracle is that my faith survived this instead of immediately shriveling up like a boner in the presence of Miley Cyrus. First metal gig was Fallujah, BTBAM and Devin Townsend, so that wasn't a bad initiation.
